Loam Pox is a BGx deck built around the cards Smallpox and Life from the Loam.
Loam Pox as of August 2022 is a more competitive variant of Legacy Pox as the deck has better synergy with Smallpox than the Mono Black builds. By having Life from the Loam to recoup lands like Wasteland / Urza's Saga and flexible uncounterable removal like Abrupt Decay, it is a more resilient and more powerful deck overall. The only real downside to this is it has a more difficult combo match-up by relying on Mox Diamonds for mana accelerants and is a much more expensive version of Pox. Where BGx Loam Pox shines is that it does better vs more fair match-ups like Delver for example, which is a huge part of the current Legacy meta.
Unfortunately, Loam Pox is built optimally when on Mox Diamonds as it is a 2-mana focused deck that is two colors and on some occasions more than two. Mox Diamond as a mana Source ensures you're consistently casting your two mana BB spells like Hymn to Tourach and Smallpox and Green Spells like Abrupt Decay, Sylvan Library, and Life from the Loam. It is also an artifact, and thus does really well with Urza's Saga. While Dark Rituals were used in the past in Loam Pox, they were never sustainable and Mox Diamonds let you cheat on card disadvantage via Life from the Loam. There are less pay-off cards for Dark Rituals and the upside of using Mox Diamonds over Dark Rituals is so critical it would be better if you ended up playing Mono Black Pox if you do not have Mox Diamonds available.
If you end up getting the Mox Diamonds, they are worth the hefty cost as they're Legacy format staples. If you do end up putting down Loam Pox you still have Mox Diamonds to go towards decks like Selesnya Depths and Lands which are both well performing decks in today's meta
Since the release of Urza's Saga from Modern Horizns 2, the Loam Pox deck has made a huge comeback in performance. Urza's Saga is a land which ties in with Life from the Loam that also sacrifices itself so you can recoup any land loss and spam more tokens into play as you beat your opponent down. Mox Diamonds, as mentioned above, is an artifact mana source to ensure that you regain access to your mana that was lost from Urza's Saga being sacrificed. Not only does Mox Diamond back you up with mana when Urza's Saga pops off, it also buffs the token. Urza's Saga has shown since release that it is the key win condition for Loam Pox and is being utilized better than something like Dark Depths that was used in the past, possibly because the Dark Depths engine takes a lot of deck space to make it work.
Currency Converter is a card released from Streets of New Capenna Commander set and has incredible synergy with the deck. Usually played in 4 copies, since it is another synergistic value engine for the deck to capitalize off of. It gives the deck the ability to filter out cards, especially cards like lands that can just be recouped with Loam to make treasure chests that can be great for Urza Saga or non-land cards like Life from Loam and Raven's Crime that benefit from being in the graveyard and making tokens, at the same time, it is a great way to outvalue the opponent and take over the game.
